Hi, I'm a bit new to Pyramix, coming over from Reaper so please forgive the stupid questions (if indeed they are). It's exciting but incredibly frustrating.
Is there any way of having set regions so that when you export/render/mixdown, it keeps the same start and end point without having to set the red and green markers? It feels like there should be some way of doing this using the cd markers but I can't see a way of mixing down using those markers, just CD creation.
In Reaper, you can create regions on the timeline, a bit like markers but with a start and end points, a bit like the red and green mark in and outs but sections you can give a name to and a region number. When you render or mixdown, you can tell it to export one or many of the regions, using the name you gave the region as the export title. This means if you want to constantly remix, re-edit etc. you can keep the exported wavs with the same names and length.
Hope this makes sense, i've been pulling my hair out.
Cheers
Chris

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
CD markers are used for more than just making CDs, they can be used in the "Publishing" operation to generate files of any and all supported formats, and will include everything from the first CD Start, to the final CD Stop marker. In other cases, selecting a specific period of time in the timeline is what the Red and Green Marks are really for.
Welcome aboard. I know that the learning curve for Pyramix can be so steep that it feels like a brick wall at times. I remember being shown how to edit, and the first day, over ten hours I managed to do one. The next day I did 80. Ah, good times...

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
Yes, Pyramix needs to retire the anachronistic CD Album publishing and move to named region definitions that Wavelab and Reaper do so well. Album publishing has a few significant annoyances that would be easy to fix.
1. 99 limit
2. CDText name does not default to Set Title from Track name.
3. Control-A does not select all tracks
4. Up, Down arrows do not move cell editing up or down
5. Have to rename just top track clips of multitrack clips in timeline to get sequenced CD marker numbers
6. Album publishing folder does not default to project folder.
etc

I can agree with most of those, but I've never found 5 to be the case...?

The output folder for file publishing never defaults to the project folder for me. Its always just the last setting that was used.

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
That's no. 6. I was perplexed by having to rename the top clip in order to get sequential CD markers...? My CD Markers are always in numerical order as I add them - if I add one between two others, the numbering sequence gets changed from that point onward, to maintain the numerical sequence. This happens whether I've adjusted the clip name/CD Marker track name or not.

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
Sorry about the item numbering. Because of the 99 marker limit, if you want to start the numbering at 100 for the next export, you have to rename just the top clips in a multichannel timeline. Bit of a pain.

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
It may be a pain, but it's a neat work-around. I've always just exported to a different folder in those cases (see No. 5).

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
Chris, one workaround might be to create a new, single-track "CD" for each region you want to pre-define; then you could publish that 'album' each time you want to mix that particular region.
You don't have to use the red/green markers to define a mix down timeframe though - you can just select a set of clips and mix down "selection" - which may be quicker and simpler, even if it involves a click-drag for each region.
