Which ASIO interface do you use ?

I've used the Weiss AFI-1 for years: It behaves well and the clocking is solid.

I'm using a RME Fireface UFX+ via USB to get AES out of native.

Since the UFX+ has lots of other uses around the studio, I'd like to free it up. Need to find a cost effective way of getting AES out of my machine, via either PCI card of USB. Any recommendations?

The RME is so solid and works flawlessly. Especially well behaved when switching projects at differing sample rates, the RME always works without changing any other settings. Would like to have this kind of reliability and ease in a replacement setup.

Extremely affordable and very decent headphone sound. DXD plays back fine.

If you like AES, you should consider SSL AlphaLink with AES/MADI option. Then you can run RME MadiFace or the UFX. Nice thing is you can pick up an SSL on the used market for cheap, and the madiFace is a fraction of the UFX.
I run this system on remotes that require 24 channels, MADI, and my UFXii. Rock solid via USB3 into laptop. Note - only drawback is no sample rate higher than 96kHz. Otherwise the SSL sounds fantastic. You will also need a monitor control if you leave the SSL on the stage as I do and only run MADI.

And the (older?) iDSD Nano (non-LE) has the above plus a SPDIF output so you can connect it to other gear in your studio. Use a handy impedance adapter barrel and you've got an AES output.

I saw mention of it a few posts ago, but as a reminder you can use it to listen to audio at sampling rates up to DSD256. I think i-Fi boxes are perfect for the travelling engineer.

NTP/DAD AX32, with the Dante Virtual Soundcard Ethernet driver. Fantastic sound and smooth operation!

In the meantime, I've got a computer with the Focusrite PCIe Dante card, and got the RME Digiface Dante for the Lenovo P51 laptop. I use a RME MADIFaceXT for backup recordings from the AX32 (on a laptop running Reaper) too.

This thread has clearly been asleep for a bit, but I'd like to reawaken it. My trusty Mutec mc-1.2 ASIO unit is failing, and I am looking for alternatives. Since this thread comprises posts from 2010 through 2019, I wonder if there is a more current unit that anyone is using?

I already have a nice D/A unit: a Benchmark DAC-1. It receives lightpipe and AES-EBU. What the Mutec does (or did) was provide ASIO, and convert the USB3 output from my Macbook Pro to lightpipe (or AES) to feed the Benchmark.

Does anyone here have a recommendation? Much thanks!

I had been using my Hapi for editing and mixing, but it's often packed up for remote recording sessions. This little box (and it is small) slots right in, giving me all the AES I/O I need for post work. And it's 100% pain-free. Thanks Graemme.
