CD/DAT Markers

Postby STA » Mon Feb 14, 2011 00:26

Hello all,

I use Pyramix 6 Native with and RME Hammerfall/Multiface setup.

In the RME control panel, there is the facility to pass on DAT/CD marker info to the software. Does anyone know whether Pyramix can pick up on this and insert the markers as it's recording the audio?

I know DAT is a bit antique now but I do get the odd project to edit on DAT every now and again and rather than have to record the tape in then go through and chop it up based on the timings, I had this vision of being able to program a macro to split the audio under each marker and then name them in order!

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

I had asked the same question of Merging several years ago and the answer is no, Pyramix does not capture the start ID info. I don't think that has changed.

If you have a standalone CD recorder, you may find that it will start a new CD track when it receives a DAT start ID over an S/PDIF connection. You could therefore clone your DAT onto CD and then import the CD into Pyramix, and the track markers should correspond with the DAT IDs. It gets messy if the DAT is longer than 80 minutes though.

Good luck

Richard,

Excellent! (and why didn't I think of that...)

I have to transfer a bunch of mini-discs into WAV files and your idea has just saved from at least part of the headache.

Thanks for the replies!

Good call on the CD transfer method, I'll give it a try.

Cheers,
Shaun

Or, a very old school method:

Put your DAT machine into ABS time mode, then skip from ID to ID while writing down the time for each ID. You could then record the audio as one file, but you can then pretty quickly enter in times and drop markers in Pyramix. If you don't have an overwhelming number of ID's this wouldn't take too long. Admittedly the CD idea is better, if you have the equipment to make it work.

Good luck with your DAT machine. I have one machine that still works. Dreading the day that it stops working.
