Vista with Native 6.0 on a laptop

Postby Davey » Fri Sep 05, 2008 16:40

Most of the Pyramix users I know are using XP with their native systems and I'm wondering whether there are any disadvantages with using native 6.0 with Vista on a PC laptop. I know 6.0 and 6.0 SP1 have been certified for use with Vista, but I'd like to know anyone's experience with this. It's getting increasingly difficult to set up XP on a new laptop (drivers for instance, and also you can sometimes lose certain features, such as being able to turn off the built in mousepad when using an external mouse, etc.)

One more question: does anyone know whether Vista would make the laptop run hotter and therefore make the laptop noiser because of fan noise?

Would love to hear from anyone using Vista with native 6.0!

Thanks.

David

I have just upgraded to a new Vista laptop and am considering whether to buy the Native upgrade to V6 (on my older laptop I run Native v5 with XP).

I am really a musician who does a little digital editing of my own 2-channel recordings for fun -- I am forever thinking that Pyramix is simply too complex for me, but I don't know of a cheaper option of something with a good fade editor.

I downloaded Native 6 and connected the dongle to the new laptop to see if it would run in demo mode while I think it over. Pyramix doesn't even start up -- so I'm wondering if I did something wrong, or if Pyramix won't run anymore in demo mode.

Let me know if I am missing something obvious.

Also, does anybody have a recommendation about a small, cheap external converter that would work with Native? Just 2 halfway-decent mic preamps would do the trick, some little box that I could use as a sort of sound card. I was looking at the compatible list on the Native page last night.

Cheers,

Lucas

You need to set your runtime variables first. Go to Program Files/Merging Tech/VS3 Runtime/VS3 Control Panel and set your Driver details there.

Thank you very much, Jaap!

I've got working in evaluation mode now on the Vista laptop -- your suggestion worked.

Best,

Lucas
