Re: Loading Mixer snapshot during record
In a word, no. The mixer (in v14), if the system is recording, won't respond to a snapshot dropped on it; record must be stopped. The snapshot rebuilds the mixer. This is a degradation of functionality - back in v5 you could drop snapshots on the mixer without a rebuild. Apart from the while-recordi...

Re: Exporting using pre-designated regions
Chris, one workaround might be to create a new, single-track "CD" for each region you want to pre-define; then you could publish that 'album' each time you want to mix that particular region. You don't have to use the red/green markers to define a mix down timeframe though - you can just s...

Re: Reordering Track Groups in Timeline
Hi David - I can't remember what I was blathering on about in 2017, sorry... (Might have been related to seeing colleagues use groups differently - e.g. say you are recording, you might have a 'multitrack' group, a '5.1' group and a 'stereo mix' group. Makes it easier to render out a set of 5.1 or ...

Re: One instance of PMX Already Running
Hi Frank,
What you say is true, and good advice. But this can happen with a simple 'quit' of PMX (where it appear to have shut correctly), not necessarily the result of a crash. And in that instance it's really quite annoying!

Re: One instance of PMX Already Running
This has been an intermittent issue I've experienced from v5 upwards - sometimes it just doesn't seem to quit cleanly, and is still 'running' in the background, so to boot again it is necessary to use Task manager to kill the application / process first.

Re: Background recorder
I get the idea of running a background recorder in mp3 though. Let's say you're running an 8- or 12- track session at 96k; no plugins. That's a very small processor load for a good modern machine. Running a background recorder or second (internal) machine as stereo mp3 should be more than possible i...

Re: Reordering Track Groups in Timeline
For the work I do, I'd agree - a small thing but a useful one. However, might it pose a problem for others? For those of us who might have two or three 'blocks' of tracks, particularly in an S/D environment, and want to shunt them around easily, fine. But what about folk who may group and re-group t...

Re: Pyramix X Clip Render troubles
I've just re-read your question(s). (1) I don't think the PMX render function to mp3 has ever worked a >48k. So at 96k, use album publishing. Or render as PMF / WAV, whatever; SRC to 44k1 / 48k, and then render as MP3. A bore, I know. (2) I thought the render / split by groups had always worked that...

Re: Headphones
HD650 is pretty common, so are the HD600 Concur. Certainly in the classical sphere, HD600's I would consider a 'standard', with a smattering of HD650. Of course there are the HD800 if you are feeling flush, but a spare cable for those (if you take them on session and artist have a tendency to trip ...

Re: Renovator for noise elimination
Hi Paul, FWIW, I find ReNOVAtor an excellent tool for working on classical music - I've used it to take out thousands of noises over a few years, and wouldn't be without it. (I remember being reluctant to make the investment years ago, but having it in the workflow it can be very useful; if I was st...

Re: Pyramix X Clip Render troubles
Do your Pyramix files have "unique file identifier" turned off? If the media name and the desired rendered media name (i.e. "Take 001" and "Take 001") are identical then PMX has had issues creating the new file. (I vaguely recall a time when it would not only abort the ...

Re: Album Publishing still frustrating
Agreed, if you require metadata. But if you need to quickly turn out masses of takes as WAV files (i.e. for an artist or non-pyramix-based producer to take away and listen to), then you probably don't need to embed any metadata, you just need a large number of files with the right filenames. In this...

Re: Album Publishing still frustrating
Why use album publishing at all? On the assumption that: - as well as multitrack you laid down a stereo session mix - each clip is already named the take name from the session (e.g. "Take 001") Simply: 1. delete all tracks except the stereo session mix 2. select all 3. Render, "split ...

Re: Option to Overwrite Destination File on Mixdown
Hi Frank - not quite! Merging failed to implement the most basic of file safety precautions - an "Undo" on hitting "Delete Take (Esc)" after recording!!! I've seen it done in a live situation where the keyboard is placed somewhere inconvenient... reach up, hit stop, then reach to...

Re: Destination always central
As Frank says, "Keep Cursor" and "Free Zoom" are your friends here. You may prefer to enable "Free Zoom"only on all source groups, leaving the destination to respond only to the overall project zoom commands. This is effectively a zoom control for only the Destination t...
