Re: Background recorder
If a take meets with some kind of disaster, I wouldn't be too happy if the only surviving recording was in mp3 format. Yes, compressed formats can be handy when providing "listening" copies of session material after the session, but I would still want a backup to be in full resolution, mu...

Re: Horus and DMI-8
Even if you are not intending DSD, the premium version of the AD/DA modules tend to spec. better. I'll defer that topic to someone better equipped to discuss the finer details. The published specs are the same. Am I missing something? Premium card measurement benchmarks are 2 dB better in THD+N@20H...

Re: Renovator not initializing
You have the standalone version of Renovator? Algorithmix is not finished with porting the security scheme to the 64-bit world. AFAIK Merging can give you a temp key for the internal Renovator version which works in 64 bit, until Algorithmix has succeeded in porting the standalone version. Best, Ber...

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
Do the test with mix down to 32 bit instead of 24 bit and maybe you will begin to understand a bit. But probably not.

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
Soundklang, you sound terribly angry at science. That's a bit insane, considering that without it you would not be talking about this subject here. Why don't you just run the experiment yourself again mixing down to 32 bit instead of 24 bit, eliminating your faulty premise that makes audible the 24 ...

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
1) Can you please explain what are the most important parameters in my experiment, and why? 2) 24 bit. 3) Dithering is adding a random signal to the output. Two downmixes with dither would always show at least the difference of the added dither signals. Since we are looking at low level differences...

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
You forgot to mention one of the most important parameters in your experiment. You are mixing down from 32bit float internal processing to which bit depth integer? Without dither…

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
Here is a good primer for anyone interested in the science, why in some special cases - not so much "generally" - 48 bit integer can have an advantage over (32 bit) float. http://elsi-ing.pagespro-orange.fr/docs/48-bit_beats_32-bit-float_for_Audio.pdf The floating point math still has the ...

Re: Bit Resolution in Audio Processing
What if Bob Katz' statement was just irrelevant conjecture based on hearsay?
Again, do you know what the (theoretical) dynamic resolution of 32 bit floating is?

Update re producer.com and Ravenna: just talked to DO @AES. They plan to ship a 64 channel Ravenna card upgrade for a 3 digit € price later this year.
