PMX v9 install problems

Postby johndsadams » Mon Jun 09, 2014 16:15

Hi,

I successfully installed PMX v9 on my MacPro running windows 7 64bit.

I've been trying to install it on my laptop with windows 7 32bit and been having serious problems.

I uninstalled v8, even did MTcleanup v8. rebooted, ran 32bit v9 (9.0.7) installer, rebooted. Stuck in my key.

Upon launching of VS3 to configure ASIO, the PMX installer appears to launch and attempt to re-install PMX. That's wrong behaviour. If I let it go, it just infinitely loops and keeps going through all the install steps with no end.

If I cancel this a windows dialog pops up to say VS3 has stopped working and I close the program.

*If I try to launch PMX, a dialog pops and says:
The program can't start because omf22.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

If I do this I get a choice to "change" "repair" or "remove". I choose "repair".... doesn't help.

It seems like I've tried every possible combination of install procedures but with the same result: If I try launching VS3, the installer (which I've removed from the computer) launches; if I launch PMX it says the omf22.dll is missing.

I need help!

Thanks in advance.

Hi John,

We are not aware of such issue and hope that you are installing the Pyramix v9 -32 bit installer in this case as the v9 -64 bit installer is only compatible with 64bit OS and will not install on a 32bit OS.

Otherwise, re-download the installer from another system (to avoid cache/corruption) and re-install making sure you have all the administrator rights and with the UAC disabled.

Regards,
Ricardo

I appreciate the time you took to reply. Thank you.

I did indeed use the correct 32 bit installer and launched the installer from a fresh download.

I was hoping someone might have seen this behavior and could offer some assistance, but alas, it appears this case is unique to me!

My next course of action is to re-install windows 7 which I do not look forward to at all.

You know what would be really helpful?

A link to MTCleanup v9. Can someone post that please?

Thanks.

Hi,

If ever needed. There is a 32bit and a 64bit clean up.

MT CleanUp v9 – 32bit: http://download.merging.com/beta/AssociatedTools/MTCleanup_9.0_x86.zip

MT CleanUp v9 – 64bit: http://download.merging.com/beta/AssociatedTools/MTCleanup_9.0_x64.zip

(p.s. I would re-download the installer from another system to avoid a corrupted one)

Regards,
Ricardo

Thanks for that. Unfortunately it didn't help. I think I've tried pretty much everything to solve this problem with no positive outcome. I'm not sure what this missing omf22.dll is but it is preventing me from running PMX. My last resort is to do a fresh install of Windows 7 but this time I will bump it up to 64bit for the added performance. I know this is going to take forever but so be it.

Just a follow up to draw some kind of conclusion to this thread...

I ended up re-installing Windows 7. Needless to say on a BootCamped MacBookPro this is a pain in the arse and it took a long time. I took the liberty of moving to 64 bit now that PMX is fully 64 bit compatible.

Almost 2 weeks later I finally got a reply from Merging support (they have to get better at that!) and they sent me the omf22.dll file. If I wasn't making my living from using their software I might have been able to see if this this file would have helped. But alas, I had to figure it out myself in a much more laborious and time consuming method.

PMX v9 seems to be working fine after the OS clean install. Knock on wood, as they say.

2nd followup! As it turns out all my woes were due to my Anti Virus (in this case Avast) removing Merging dll files.

So please be aware of your anti virus setting when installing and when you experience unexpected Merging software failure.

You can usually tell your antivirus software to leave certain files alone.

David at Merging has contacted the folks at Avast to ask them to ignore the Merging dll files in a their future software update.

I have to concur.

I have Avast as well, and on my first Pyramix 9 64bit installation attempt everything went wrong.

I had to revert back to a previous restore point (which in fact gave an error message, but did the restore anyway).
Now I installed the latest V9.1 version, but first disabled all Avast shields permanently.

That did the trick !

BUT: the first time I ran the Pyramix installer, it hung for about 30 minutes, untill I decided to kill it manually, restart, reinstall.
Second time it worked/finished in about half a minute.

When 9.1 first came out, I had only been running Windows 7 for about a month, so the kinks were still being worked out.

Nevertheless, my first attempts at installing Pyramix met with dismal failure - the installer would start and then..., nothing, even after disabling Anti-virus and Anti-malware. I eventually had to get help from Merging support via a Teamviewer session. It turned out that some of my Windows Firewall settings were interfering with installation. This makes sense given that more recent versions have had increasing amounts of code devoted to the establishment of a network connection, even when one chooses to bypass the Ravenna Easy Connect install.

Once my Firewall settings were corrected, subsequent installations (32 bit) have been trouble free, although I have learned that it may not be purely the actions of Anti-virus or Anti-malware programs which can interfere.
