Horus AES/EBU input: Is it 24 in/out or 12 in/12 out?

Postby grammymix » Sun Nov 18, 2018 04:22

The (3) DB25 connectors on the Horus are clearly marked (AES 1-8) (AES 9-16) (AES 17-24). This suggests there are 24 inputs, however the manual describes using the typical Tascam AES pinout of 4 in/4 out per DB25 connector.

The manual also reads:
3 x D-SUB25 connectors providing 24 channels (12 AES pairs) of AES-EBU I/O are Included as standard

I'm confused by '12 AES pair'. Does this mean 12 in/12 out total, or can I get 8 AES inputs per DB25 connector?

One physical contact (XLR) carries 2 channel AES/EBU
Hence 12 XLR = 24 channels

Each DB25 contains 4 AES I/O pairs, so 8 channels in and 8 channels out on each DB25.
