Merging Technologies

Flux is running a very generous discount on Solera this month.

I'm tempted to buy it, my only reservation being that he includes some very unique controls, but their documentation is rarely very illuminating as to what they do and how to use them. Any thoughts?

I work with Solera V3 VS3, and it's a great tool but, (I'm french) I agree with you, the manual user is.... "very special" and don't exist in French (Flux is a French company ) I think you must have to take many time to experiment it because it's a very very efficient tool.

I think we often wait to try tools and plug ins till we are in the middle of a project and need something new. Then we download and try them in the heat of the moment.

That's pretty much what happened when I tried Flux Pure Limiter. But I'm glad I took time with it. It was able to give me a clean sound that none of my other tools could match.

And I should just be smart and get Solera when I have some time to fully get to know it. I am hoping that they offer a special on Epure some time soon.

Solera is very worth the effort it takes to get to know it...

For instance, you can load a subtle version of your processing in the 'A' register and a more heavy-handed version in the 'B' register. Then use the slider to fade between the two, effectively allowing you to morph many controls at once. I use this more often than I ever thought I would (which still isn't that often ;->)

Solera can also do similar tricks to the TC-6000, in terms of creating a process that expands and compresses at the same time; allowing you to 'zoom-in' on the middle of your dynamic range and bring it forward in a very subtle way.

I don't often get the time to experiment with plug ins, I need a solution NOW!

I bought V3 of Solera when it was first released under offer and it sat there unused until I threw it into a project without much thought. initially I was disappointed as I could hear it working. It was only at the end of the project when I got the time to have a fiddle. I had given up on the manual, I could read the words but the meaning just didn't make sense, to me at any rate. I then found a whole range of presets, this gave me a greater insight into what Solera was capable of and how I could have used it much more effectively. Oh well, we live and learn.
