I'm trying 8 track DSD recording. The below is my system configuration:
Pyramix 5.1.11 SP1
Mykerinos MB5 (both AES / EBU, SDIF in pci slots)
CPU: AMD Athlon (tm) 64 Processor 4000+ (single core) 2.41 GHz
RAM 3G (2 x 1gb, 2 x 512mb)
Recording Target HD: 300gb 10000rpm Velociraptor
Motherboard TYAN S2865 Tomcat K8E
I managed to record for about 1 minute with the system, but when I play back the recorded tracks, DSP gets overloaded and I keep getting the error message saying "Host PCI response time too long (>50) for proper Mykerinos Audio Processing in real time."
The same problem occurs when the tracks are played back in DXD mode too.
What seems to be causing the problem and what can I try to solve it? Your kind help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Young

Re: Problem with DSD recording (Pyramix 5.1)
Hi Young,
it seems that it is related to the clock of your PCI busses on the motherboard. Did you experimented going into the bios to try see if there is something that can be tweaked regarding the PCI bus?
I remember a long time ago that there was a problem with certain clock velocities on PCI and Mykerinos, but can´t remember properly. Maybe others have a better memory here

Re: Problem with DSD recording (Pyramix 5.1)
'DSD' mode in Pyramix is actually pretty easy on the computer if you're only doing eight tracks. There's clearly something wrong with that computer, as I've recorded eight tracks (with playback) on some pretty lame PCs with no performance issues. This included v5.1. Are you using the most recent version of 5.1 (I think it's 5.1.13)
I don't recall any specific PCI tweaks, at least not for low track-count systems using older CPU's.
Best,
Graemme

That Tyan board has regular PCI (2.0) and PCIe (x16 and x1) slots.

Re: Problem with DSD recording (Pyramix 5.1)
Couple of quick comments-
This may have nothing to do with the problem at hand, but could it be the chipset/processor?
AFAIK, Mykerinos has never been tested on any kind of an AMD system. We've had the best luck with Intel chipsets and processors.
I assume that the OS and recording volumes are not on the same physical drive?
Also, I assume that the record volume is formatted NTFS with 64k block size.
Is the HDSP jumper in place between the 2 Mykerinos cards?
What happens if you take out the AES Card and have only the SDIF card in the system? (You may need to move the daughter card around depending on which is your key card. )
That should keep you busy for a little while.
All the best,
-mark

Re: Problem with DSD recording (Pyramix 5.1)
My first Pyramix DSD system was a Tyan dual-processor M/B using AMD..worked just fine. The ATAPI controller eventually died, but that system ran 4x Mykerinos boards (AES and SDIF d/c) and an Adaptec SCSI controller with no issues. I can't remember if that was ever running v5.1, but maybe some beta versions of 5.0...

Graemme
