Windows 10 Update

Postby Larry Elliott » Fri Dec 29, 2017 00:08

I was sure I had followed the Merging instructions for deferring Win 10 updates, but the computer just did one. There was no warning, just an indication that an update was ready to be installed when I went to shut the computer down.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Larry

It's stories like this that have kept me firmly in the Win7 camp, and I expect that when support ends in a couple of years, I'll just take my Windows installations off-line, and hop off the upgrade train.

I know - no help. Sorry.

I hope you had a cloned backup or image of your drive, should you wish to revert. You may also wish to start following the informative posts found on the AskWoody.com website, regarding the latest, um, stuff, coming from Microsoft. There are some very knowledgeable people who post there, and I'm hopeful that you'll find methods of postponing or preventing unexpected surprises like what you've just experienced.

There's a notice here:
http://www.merging.com/support/pc-config
which has IMPORTANT NOTE: Windows 10 Fall Creator currently not compatible with Pyramix/Ovation/VCube. Until this is resolved, please defer Windows updates. See here for details on how to defer updates
...though you wouldn't find it if you weren't looking for it.

This post shows a workaround: viewtopic.php?f=14&p=39199#p39191
