Media markers text not always shown in markers tab

Hello,
I would like to use media markers in my source destination projects to mark f.i. Noises, good or bad parts in several takes. Each take is recorded on a new source. When I edit these takes to the destination track all those little reminders are copied to. So far so good. When I open the markers tab I only see the text that I typed for these markers when the clip which has a media marker is selected/ highlighted. When nothing is selected I only see the list of 'normal' markers and no media markers. I can only see the coloured numbers in my destination and timeline, but not the text.

The disadvantage of the normal markers is that they are not copied from the source when you do sd editing.
I hope you can help me with this issue.

Best regards,
Arnoud

In the Markers Menu, is "Display Media Markers" activated? When you select your Destination Clips, do the Markers become visible? If not, what happens when you go to the Markers Menu and select "Update Media Markers to Files"?

Media Markers are only supposed to become visible when the Clip(s) is/are selected. A coloured "Rating Line" will remain visible even when the Clip is not selected, but as you've noted, the text will not be displayed until the Clip is selected.

I'm not really sure what your question is, in that everything you've described is how it's supposed to work, according to the Manual beginning on page 134.

Media Markers is activated. I see the numbers of the media markers in the timeline. But when I want to know what they mean I have to select a clip first. Only after that it becomes visible in the media markers tab, next tot the 'normal' markers list.

Normal markers are always shown in the markers tab. When I click on source 1 all the markers + my text is there. I would like to see the same behaviour for the media markers. The big advantage of using media markers over normal markers is that they are copied to the destination or every other position where this clip is used. When a clip is moved, they move along with the audio as you will know. Normal markers don't move along.

I've read the manual but couldn't find more details on this. I haven't tried Update Media Markers to Files yet. Do you think this has anything to do with this?

Best regards, Arnoud

No, I think everything you've described is how Merging designed the program. If you would like to suggest a change, either post in the Suggestions forum, or contact Merging Support directly, to propose making a change.

My personal feeling is that if they do, I would hope that it would be an optional setting, as all users may not want to see ALL Media Markers displayed for ALL Clips, ALL the time. Perhaps if you could filter the list by Track Group..., at which point you may not have gained much more capability, apart from dispensing with the need to click on a Clip.

I'm not in front of Pyramix right now - what happens when you Select more than one Clip at a time? Do all the Media Markers for all the Selected Clips appear in the Markers Tab?

I will pass it on to Merging. Not in front of my system also, but when you select multiple clips the text will show up.

Selection of clips is off by default in SD editing to prevent clips from accidentally moving them.

Oh, now I get it. I disliked that condition when I first started using Pyramix, so I have Clip Selection enabled for all my S-D Track Groups, always. Most of the time, to set-up S-D Editing, I'm modifying the Project I used for the recording session(s), by simply duplicating the original Track Group, and then making further settings manually, so I never encounter the condition where Clip Selection is disabled. I know that the S-D Editing Template which Merging provides has Clip Selection disabled, but you don't have to live with that if you'd rather have the ability to Select Clips so that you can see their Media Markers. If you're concerned about inadvertently moving Clips with a stray Mouse click&drag, enable "Lock Horizontal Drag" in the Clips Menu.

Yes Frank,
I'm aware of that and I use all the functions that you describe allready. When I moved from version 7 tot 10 last year I discovered a problem in Merging's own template for SD editing. I couldn't save snapshots in the libary, and this turned out to be a bug in the template, so I made one from scratch.

When clip selecting is deselected you can still select a clip by holding Q, but for my issue this doesn't matter because not very often you will select all your clips in the timeline (several different songs) just to see the tekst of the markers in the markers tab.
