Pyramix and Lynx AES16e problems

Postby archive » Fri Jan 30, 2015 17:39

Yesterday I tried to use Pyramix with a Lynx AES16e for the first time, and had no end of problems. Dropouts, big buzzing glitches, Pyramix and Lynx losing sync and/or switching from AES to internal sync randomly behind the scenes.

I quickly repatched everything back to an RME AIO card, and it was rock solid again, as it has been with that card for months previously. I had only tried the Lynx because I wanted more AES ins / outs. I had previously used it with Samplitude without issue, so I think the card itself is fine, but it was not getting along with Pyramix at all.

Has anyone else here had problems with the Lynx AES16e?

Best,

- J.

Yes, to my surprise I have had issues with the Lynx AES16e after a decade of problem free audio with an AES16. According to Lynx it was the bridging chip on the motherboard, but I swapped motherboards and it was still a problem although less. In the end it was simply solved by setting the ASIO channels to two and reducing the resource use. A modern i7 PC with resource use issues just delivering two channels of AES. Does it make sense?

Thanks for this David, glad to see it wasn't just me. I'm not really in the mood to troubleshoot the Lynx so I'll likely move it out.

So how stable is Pyramix Native / HAPI with Ravenna ASIO? Thinking of making the move if it means the end to these kind of interface issues.

It is magnificent and stable. I've had it with soundcards inside the computer. Having said that, I have just acquired a Marian D4 Seraph and will try that as well as Ravenna to HAPI for mastering/monitoring. The only issue with Ravenna, is that it doesn't play well with a standard network, so your PMX workstation motherboard has to have two NIC's on board. One for Ravenna and one for everything else.

Thanks again David. I'm going to start a new thread with some more HAPI questions as I investigate it further.

Had the exact same experience with AES16e.
Upgraded to Hapi and the system has been rock solid after.
Had sort of the same issues 10 years ago with a Lynx Two card.
At that time I upgraded to Mykerinos (which just got upgraded to a second Hapi.)
Maybe not that strange that software and hardware made by the same company is the most stable. (i.e. Apple.. 8) )

I just spent a day troubleshooting for a client that could not play back even a few channels of audio without massive cpu spikes and clicks using the aes16e.
Isolated the problem to the card I saw normal behaviour with an RME AES card as well as asio4all on the internal MB sound. Same problem both in v8 and v9.

Have experienced that Lynx ASIO drivers can be a bit hit or miss.
One of the reasons why I bought the Mykerinos system in the first place
was due to massive dropouts on 4 channels of 24/96 using a Lynx Two card.
The future is Ethernet sound. :)

Sounds more like a Hardware compatibility issue.

A couple of links:

EDIT
Sorry, my mistake: read through the thread too quickly :?
Obviously the bridge chip will not have any bearing on the matter since the Lynx card in question is a PCIe !
My comment applied to the Lynx AES16 (PCI).
