TC Powercore 6000, working or not?

Postby draudio2u » Fri Mar 12, 2010 00:49

Hello,

About to purchase a TC Powercore 6000 in hopes of solving my high quality needs of reverb and mastering tools (I miss the oriignal 6000 I used to have access to). My concern is that I run a bank of hard drives off a FW800 slot and would share this slot with the TC at FW400. I turned away from the original Powercore FW because there were serious issues of recognition when running multiple FW devices or interfaces. ANyone out there running this system successuflly? Can you give a quick review?
I am using Native version with an MykMB3 card. All hard drives are FW via Glyph hot swap bay. Cheers.

You don't specify the computer (or type of) that you're using...

I would strongly suggest finding a way to add another firewire port (PCI;ExpressCard; etc.). This will minimize your grief...

Pyramix Native with MB3 card (runs in Mykerinos mode). Quad intel machine. single pci board with FW800 and 400 connections. 2 gig ram.
Seems I have to run in Masscore in order to gain VST option. ANyone have opinion on this? How does Masscore effect system overall?
Thanks.

Without masscore you can use vst, but not on busses and masters, only on pre-recorded material (if I remember correctly) and without delay compensation..

True, though the alternative if you need VST on busses, masters, etc., is to ditch the MYK card and run in Native, where (v6, not v5) you have VST's everywhere, as I understand it. You should still be able to sell the MYK card for more than an RME card will cost you, rather than go to the expense of MassCore. There are downsides to the Native solution too, of course (lack of direct / zero latency monitoring, etc).

Yes, the problem is two fold:
1. I need delay compensation as I am running a large mix with auxes.
2. I need to retain my MB3 card for CubeTec authorization (security key is tied to MB serial numbers).

Anyone out there actually have a Powercore (6000) running successfully on their system? I would like to know performance before making such a large investment.
Cheers.

Can you transfer the key to your Native dongle (ie so the MYK card becomes unnecessary?)

No I cannot. CubeTec is VERY specific that their Audiocube system must be built with a Myk card for security. THough many of the CubeTec VPI tools are now available for native systems, quite of few of the more advanced restoration and mastering plugs are still tied to the Myk card. I have every tool they offer so there is no way I am dropping the Myk card. Besides, the Myk card sounds good.

Anyone running a Powercore with Pyramix? I would like to know how it is going....
