Unity/Avid support

Postby feaker » Fri Feb 03, 2006 01:24

Can the Vcube playback unrendered FX off of a unity server?

what are the other considerations of using this box on the Unity?

thanks in advance,

Since Avid projects need to be consolidated and OMF2 compliant in order to be used by VCube, the FX must be rendered at this time. Currently, the only supported real time FX is the dissolve. VCube doesn't feature an Avid video engine to support all possible FX.

Unity/Avid support

Cool thanks for the fast response. Another quicky. I would like to control one of these froma dub stage that has 3 Protools systems on it. Anybody aware of a cost effective way to provide more than one transport control? I'm aware that Sound Master can do this but It seems a little pricey.

Thoughts?

thanks again,

Avid Unity

I am thinking of buying a V Cube. Iwas under the impression that it could playback directly off the unity with no need to consolidate. For a half hour show it would take longer to consolidate than it would to playout an Avid sequence.

It depends of the project.
Once into the VCube, the consolidated composition can be rendered much faster than on Avid systems.

Hi,

You can playback directly from a Unity with appropriate license and connection, however, we usually recommend copying the files locally to VCube. It really depends how much of the server bandwidth is available at any given moment.

Kind regards

If bandwidth is not an issue, is there any other reason NOT to playback directly off the unity? Everything that we do off the unity is compressed 14:1 so we have plenty of bandwidth.

thanks for all the fast answers.

The more VCubes are connected to the Unity, the less it's responsive for editing purpose. Note also that the number of Avid specific licenses must reflect the number of connected VCubes. If a lot of VCubes are used, a dedicated server mirroring the Unity is the best solution. This solution allows a lot of connections with no drawback on the Unity responsiveness, using a single license. The VCube solution is flexible enough to enable an evolution with the growth of the activity. One VCube + one Avid licence and direct streaming from the unity > A second or more VCubes copying data from the Avid connected VCube > A dedicated server for many VCubes and still just one Avid licence.
