Nils Boden (Neumann Germany) personally told me that Pyramix 8 should appear before July 2011.
Here in Vienna (Europe) Pyramix 7 is alrealdy 3 months old.

Quite cocky Signore ;-)
Some say Pyramix 7 is just out of the whomb, but maybe in Vienna you like premature births. 3 months ago it was certainly a beta. :-)

V5 to V6 took 2.5 years. V6 to V7 was 3 years. V8 in summer 2011 would be quite fast, but maybe.

Cheers

Maybe that's when Merging would *like* to release v8...

While it's always possible, Bernhard's post spells out the historic reality.

I recently got a plug from my Merging dealer about Annual Software Maintenance... it said "Merging is expecting to release V8 sometime this year so a valid ASM key will give you a free upgrade to his new version." The history would certainly suggest we can't expect a new version until at least 2012. Regardless, I sincerely hope to see a version with 64 bit support soon!! Since MS is predicting an early 2012 launch for Windows 8, I would want Pyramix 8 to be compatible with this as well.

There is no reason why Merging couldn't support 64bit Windows in a 7.1 or 7.2 release of pyramix.... It is completely unrealistic to think that v8 will be released in 2011 unless they just decide to slap a #8 on something that is really just an incremental update of v7.

Maybe I'll have to eat these words, but I'd be willing to wager otherwise!

Dear Merging Friends,

Our team is well aware of the time it took between the Pyramix v6 release and the v7 release. Be aware that in between those versions we at Merging did not sit resting as we've greatly stabilized the 6.0 release version with multiple updates (v6.0, v6.0 SP1-2-3, V6.1, v6.1 MR1-2, v6.2, v6.2 SP1-2). Through those updates we’ve also brought in some new features (lucky you).

Merging does plan a Pyramix 8.0 version for 2011 (with additional surprises) and work has actually already started on v8.0 on a parallel branch. We also plan on maintaining the Pyramix v7.0 stability this year with some updates.

Furthermore Merging plans on releasing a Pyramix Native 32bit version that can be installed on a Windows 7 - 64 bit OS in 2011 as well.

Merging does not expect to release a Pyramix MassCore 64 bit version in 2011 based on the expected schedule announced by our Third Party partner. We sure hope to provide you with such support the following year.

That's all we can say for now.

Best Regards,
The Merging Team

Yes, thanks Ricardo - great news about an upcoming version compatible with 64 bit OSs. One related question - will that version also be the same software version as used by the full Pyramix systems? Just checking it would be OK to migrate a project from Native running under Windows 7 64 bit and a XP SP3 32 bit, for example.
