Native VS. Mykerinos Sound

Postby Donald S » Fri Mar 04, 2005 06:01

Having never used a mykerinos system in which to compare - Does anyone hear a considerable improvement in the sound between the 2 platforms?
I've been impressed with the sound of native! :D

Yes
PMX native works great, but you should try with a Mykerinos, you'll hear the difference !

Hi Donald,

What you are really comparing here is the sound card, as the software is the same, apart from Native's limitations.

So it depends on the sound card you are using.....
I use the Lynx 2.

aomahana,

Thanks for the reply! You're right. The Mykerinos cards, don't have an AtoD on board. I use a benchmark Dac1 to monitor the Pyramix native.
What intrigues me is what reps and users are telling me. That the software is NOT the same, but thousands more must be invested in TDM cards to get the full sonic advantage of Pyramix.

This came as a surprise to me as the retailers and website make no mention of any compromise in sonic quality (if there is any). After purchasing software i was told that I could use PMX native in the manner the website described, however it was never meant to do it. Again, a little suspicious.

I can see needing additional CPU power for DSD, but for simple PCM at low sample rates? I'm anxiously awaiting Merging to get the native up to speed with it's competition.
Just curious, do you have both? Can you hear a difference?

Best Regards,
Don

Hello,

No, I don't have both at present.

I would be surprised if there is a difference though, as Merging describe Native as including Pyramix core software.

But I guess a clear response to your question can only be given by someone who is involved with writing the software.

Kind regards,
