UAD-2 doubled load in real time mixdown

Postby SoundKlang » Sun Jun 15, 2014 22:03

When doing a mixdown of a project in non-realtime mode, the dsp load of my uad-2 system doubles compared to just playing back the project. After the first non-realtime mode mixdown, the uad-2 dsp load stays doubled.

It always was this way with my Pyramix and now is beginning to cause effort for workarounds. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour with uad-2? Is there any other solution than doing mixdowns in realtime mode (which I would like to avoid)?

Another forum member posted an alternative to the mixdown function (can't find that thread again): Realtime recording the playback after rerouting the mixbus via 2-ch internal bus to a stereo track (with the mixer strip's input type set to the mixbus and the mixer strip switched "off").

This does avoid the doubled UAD-2 dsp load. And, to my ears, the result is closer to WhatYouHearIsWhatYouGet than regular non-/realtime mixdown.
