Re: DiscWrite advanced settings

I've heard so many issues with Snow Leopard, it makes me feel glad that Im not a Mac user these days! Saying that, I tried a couple of windows programs and I couldn't get them too see the part written disc. I went to using Toast 9 because I had seen a couple of posts where people had been able to bu...

Re: mic positon ideas: string quartet and a quiet vocalist

I never spot violins closer than 3-4 feet, the problem in a quartet environment is that usually they are sitting closer together than this, so it slightly defeats the object. If you have to spot, ribbons all the way, just so much kinder to strings. I have a pair of 4038's, placed sigularly as a spot...

Re: mic positon ideas: string quartet and a quiet vocalist

Hi Mark, Whatever you do I'm sure it will be great, I've heard some of the samples on your website and they are very impressive. Personally I never bother spotting quartets for the very reasons you mention, however, if you are not the producer and he's going to like that I would go with it. The Scho...

Re: mic positon ideas: string quartet and a quiet vocalist

Hi Mark, It is indeed difficult and there is no easy answer as you will have to create a false balance. For spotting vocalists, Schoeps work really well and I would consider the possiblity of having her face the ensemble with an MS pair to spot her. This will allow you to get a little bit more of a ...

Adding video file to CD master

I've got a project for a band at the moment where they want to include a video on the CD. I just wondered if there is a simple way to do this within discwrite, rather than exporting the project and using something like Nero, mainly as I don't trust Nero for a mission critical project and particularl...

Re: Mixer ideas

This is obviously a step in the right direction. However, things like slot positions for sends and plugs would be good also, makes it easy to know where you are clicking. It might also be the time to look at getting away from the dual screen scenario, this was a great feature in the past, but now wi...

Re: Mixer ideas

Nice idea, however, IMHO the mixer really needs a complete redesign, alla Protools/Logic audio et al. At the moment it is too cluttered and clunky. Things like the need to buss reverbs then send this buss to a new channel with a reverb on is horrible! Busses should be all interenal and the reverb on...

Re: Masscore and Firewire

At the risk of speculating this sounds suspiciously like buss speed problems or DPC latency issues. 8 audio tracks from a firewire drive is nothing in terms of data rate, however, DPC latency is a killer with Masscore systems. I found this too my cost when I had a particularly "flash" Nvid...

Re: any interests in developing for Nvidia CUDA?

With Masscore this becomes (IMHO) irrelevant. At present "hiding" one core from the computer to enable it to be exclusively used for processing gives enormous power. I suspect that as more and more cores are added (i.e. 8, 12, 16 etc) that more can be reserved offering up more power than m...

Re: Anyone running 128 channel madi?

I would say so, I've done that myself. I'm not sure if it is of interest, but I've bench tested Sata 300 drives (seagate 32meg cache) and achieved sustained data writes and reads of 64 meg a sec, that equates to approx 450 tracks! Of course I would try some tests yourself, but it is possible that yo...

Re: Dither automation

You could master those tracks export as 16 bit with dither and reimport into a duplicate project with the other untouched tracks. Alternatively I would just master those tracks and then listen to them without adding dither to see if there is an issue, I suspect they will sound fine.

Re: Help: Sudden appearance of clicking (latency) in playback.

I had a similar problem with a VS3 system on a PC, when in record spikes or higher levels reported by the DPC latency checker. In my case it turned out to be a video card driver issue (I was using a Nvidia 9600 card with the latest driver). Swopping to another video card, much older Nvidia (7200 I t...

Re: masscore run on Core2 Quad

I'm not sure that I am understanding you correctly, however, in the VS3 control panel it must be set to Masscore mode for it to work properly. Also when you turn on the system you should be getting a boot screen telling you that you have 30 seconds to choose either Masscore mode or standard Pyramix ...
