Re: Mysterious Pop and loss
The first thing I ask is what kind of drive are you using? USB, Firewire? This sounds like the system put the drive to sleep. This happens all the time with USB and firewire drives. You need to go into the power management and disable the power saving features. You'd thi...

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

I've been using OWP's mercury elite FW800 drives, NTFS formatted and accessed by MacDrive. They have an external power supply which I want to do away with in the field but are fine for the studio. On the DPC program, I am still getting 800-1200 ms. spikes exactly every 30 reconds! I have to download...

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

Glad to hear that the default setting was good, but I was hoping that it was part of my problem. I just want to clarify that the pops are printed on the file, not just a random playback issue. I'll check the LAN ports next. I'm getting spikes of 800-1200 when PMX is open, connected to the FF800 and ...

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

I realized that I had forgot to look at record block size and it was set to 64! Would that cause some problems with 5 tracks at 24/44.1? And a big thank you to Frank Lockwood!

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

Thank again everyone for the help. I did a couple things such as update the FF800 drivers and also ran the DPC check program. Spikes were below 1000u/s with the largest at 1250 and most below 500 at 10-15 sec intervals. So far everything SHOULD be running well. But I'll have to do more tests to be c...

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

Hello Graemme, Yes, please assume that I don't know! This is the first time taking PMX in the field. I tried once back in 2005 and it was a disaster! Mostly because of a (expensive but junk) toshiba laptop. Now that I finally have a MBP running bootcamp, I'm ready to give it another try. Thanks for ...

Re: Mysterious Pop and loss

Thanks Tim - good to know! The only reason I selected that option is because the manual recommends it. I was hoping to track and mix in PMX so that the rest of the world wouldn't matter. I did get a funky PMX "not responding" during a test once, but that was a while back and figured it was...

Mysterious Pop and loss

Hi, I've never had this problem with PMX before, maybe because I usually take a different DAW in the field. But there is a slight pop across all tracks and a loss of time of about an 8th note in my latest recording. (Dvorak 9 3rd mvnt) Thank god it's a repeated section! But shouldn't PMX alert me wh...

Re: External HDs

...Have you tried any bus powered drives? SSD's?
For location I really like the LaCie quad interface drives. They're very fast, and I can connect FW800 to my Mac laptop on location, then eSATA to transfer back in the studio. I do ...

Re: External HDs

Thanks for the reply. The 2.5" drives come in 7200, and bus powered, which would make life a little easier. I like the big metal mercury elites in the studio, but they use an external power supply which I would rather not deal with in the field. Have you tried any bus powered drives? SSD's?

External HDs

I've been using Mercury Elite drives from OWC (via FW800) for a couple years. But these new small drives look tempting for field use and some are even bus powered! Has anyone experimented with the 5400 or 7200 models?
Cheers!

Re: Cursor preroll help

Could this be a bug? I'm using PMX 5.1. I reread the manual last night and found no setting for this other than the "default", which is at zero. In addition, I put all of the rest at zero also. Any help would be appreciated.

Cursor preroll help

My cursor adds preroll even though I have all the values in the settings (playback) at zero. Did I miss a setting? BTW - I'm using Native 5.1.3 if that is at all part of the issue.

I'm running PMX 6.1 on a MBP 2.66 Core Duo 4gig ram w/XP without any problems. I keep a copy of Reaper on the mac side in case of emergencies!

Re: Laptops that work well with PMX

Glad I waited. The new MBP 13inch with FW800 looks perfect and apparently has NO issues with the Fireface800! The only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact the user cannot replace the battery. Which in my experience only lasts 2 years. And there is no PCI express slot on the 13 OR 15. Now you're fo...
